FEEDING & CLOTHING THE HOMELESS
IN THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY

“To Whom Much Is Given Much Is Required”
Luke 12:48 KJV Bible

God blessed me to overcome hunger, homelessness, and at times hopelessness. God enabled me to get back on my feet. Now, I am reaching back and giving back to others just as he gave to me.

The Recovery Project

Have you ever been in a situation where it seems like nothing can go right and so you turn to substances? We have people who have been there.
For the last year, Project H.O.O.D. has been hosting these events. Every 2nd Saturday of the month, Project H.O.O.D. hosts the Recovery Project Speaker-a-thon facilitated by Trina Jackson.
Like many people Trina had to deal with trauma from an early age and began hanging out with the wrong crowd which led to her substance abuse issues, and other problems. Recently she celebrated 13 years being sober and her journey has come full circle.
In 2012, she came to New Beginnings Church for a meeting, and that is where her sobriety journey began. After that one meeting, she began to do what was necessary to stay clean.ย She began going to self-help meetings which helped her to keep her mind off of the old and usher in a new mentality.
Once she herself became clean and changed her way of thinking, she has been helping others begin their own journeys to recovery. She helps people because she understands and knows what itโs like to live with a hopeless state of mind, but she is a living testimony that there is hope and you can turn things around.

In helping people turn things around and helping them to stay sober and clean, she has helped some to get their licenses back and others to have their families restored by getting their children returned. And now she is facilitating events to help others in the very place where her journey started. There are many different ways to assist people with substance abuse issues, but one of the first things is to meet people where they are at.
For Trina, she has bought into speaker-thons because they touched her soul to be able to meet people and hear about their experiences which matches her previous experiences. Jackson said โWhen you are going through what youโre going through, it feels like youโre the only one and thatโs not the case. Sometimes hearing otherโs stories provides the hope that you need to know that you are to be free.โ
